Loved this book! It offered a poignant, yet humorous view of the invisible communities found in soup kitchens across America. The author lost her corporate job in the 2008 recession and chronicles her descent into the soup kitchens. She allows us entry into an underground world rife with unforgettable characters. While the author's stories about these characters will literally make you laugh out loud, she does so with respect for their uniqueness and survival skills. This is well written and her vivid descriptions provide a memorable step into a suburban soup kitchen community.Product details

I too was one of those homeless people. I survived by living in an abandoned house.
It was in an industrial area, so I left in the morning before the businesses opened and
reentered the house at night after the businesses closed. I ate at numerous missions
downtown in Jacksonville Florida. What I am saying here is that the author speaks with
the voice of experience and the ring of truth.
Which all the more makes me resent Hillary who wanted to bring in 500,000 Syrian refugees
and put them up in section 8 apartments, give them welfare and food stamps. None of that
was I able to get as a homeless veteran. I got work and worked my way out of homelessness.
